I live on the Gatwick perimeter road, parallel to the runways. The existing noise and emissions are already impacting on our lives, sleep, health, ability to open windows etc; this will double with a new runway that will effectively be 12m closer to our home. Light pollution at night will increase. Local traffic is already heavy with endless potholes. We’ve lost 4 cats to the traffic. There is not enough infrastructure to support the increased number of passengers and new workers, who are unlikely to live locally (shortage and prices of housing) and will drive to work. This is assuming Gatwick will manage to recruit - they are already understaffed and cancel flights frequently. If they can’t run the existing services how can they cope with increasing demand? Gatwick say the expansion will improve local economy but it will do the opposite.
