I oppose the second runway construction at Gatwick airport. I live under the flight path. Granted the planes only take off over my house when the wind is coming from the east, but these planes are only approx 1500 ft above my house. The noise from some of these planes, especially the Boeing 777’s which wake you up night and morning. If you’re sitting in your garden you have to stop your conversation as you can’t be heard. If you’re sitting in your house with the doors and windows closed you can feel a rumble/vibrations through the floor and walls. Plus you can hear the planes over the tv. Then there’s the pollution these planes cause. I have a bird bath in my garden and when the planes take off over my house the water turned pink! This is aviation fuel!! Plus if my washing is hanging in the line there is a residue left in it that you can clearly smell. Then you have the environmental impact of all the building work actually building the runway and added infrastructure around it. All that concrete! Why are we considering expanding an airport when we are supposed to be reducing our CO2 levels? I hear you say, what about the extra employment it will bring to the area? Well I’m a local employer and both my company and other companies in the area are struggling to hire decent staff as people are not skilled enough or just don’t want to work!
