IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT OF A SECOND RUNWAY AT GATWICK AIRPORT As the resident of a village on top of the North Downs located no more than about 10 direct miles from the airport, I would like to make a strong objection to the proposed construction of a Second or what has been more conveniently described as a Northern runway at Gatwick Airport for the following reasons:- 1. It is doubtful that the second runway could be operated as a fully commercial proposition that would usually be provided by two runways being operated concurrently. 2. The aggravation / nuisance resulting from the additional noise produced as a result of the increased traffic. 3. Lack of housing / facilities to support an increased and mainly unskilled workforce that would result. 4. The M23 already has a poor reputation for accidents/congestion. This situation would be further aggravated if the second runway were to be approved. 5. The additional pollution that would result is not in line with the Government's ambition to reduce Global Warming. I trust that all the above points will be given close consideration by the Planning Inspectorate
