Our planet is on fire. The climate crisis is here. We should be urgently cutting air travel to and from the UK, not expanding capacity. A second runway at Gatwick would allow more than 100,000 additional flights per year - the associated fossil fuel emissions, traffic, pollution and noise would be catastrophic for local residents and for the UK’s net zero targets. The knock-on effects of continuing to ignore those targets and failing to appropriately tackle the climate crisis increases the widespread dangers for an already at-risk global population. The impacts of this project would be devastating, and it must not go ahead.
