The development will only increase the release of more greenhouse gases, which contribute to the climate emergency we’re facing in the UK and globally. This project will create more pressure on the rail and road networks serving the airport, adding 76 million more passengers per year and a further deterioration in air quality across a large area of southern England. It will undermine the government’s aviation strategy. The proposal is for a new runway – not bringing an existing runway into regular use, as claimed.
