There is a global climate crisis and in this mix it is madness to increase pollution. The expansion plan will increase the release of greenhouse gases which are responsible for the climate crisis facing the entire world. The poorest in the world, and in this country will face more illness and poorer quality of life for the richer people to squander the planet's future. The expansion will increase the pressure on road and rail networks that serve the airport - have you tried to use the M25 to get to Gatwick at this moment in time - it's a nightmare. And the trains are already overcroweded, and this will merely increase with 76 million more passengers per year added on. And again this will further increase the decline in air quality. This expansion goes directly against the current government's aviation strategy - the proposal is for a new runway, not bringing an existing runway into regular use. The fact that there is misinformation on this by the current government merely reflects that they know it is unpopular, so they are shrouding it in double-speak. London already has very poor air quality, and whilst the Mayor is doing his utmost to improve it, this expansion will merely eradicate all the good he is doing for Londoners and the south-east. The climate impact must be taken into account.
