The earth is in crisis. Now is the time to reign in on air travel, not expand it. Airport expansion also results in additional noise pollution and environmental damage caused by overdevelopment. Given the number of airlines that used Gatwick over the years that no longer operate, or have transferred to Heathrow, I doubt that the demand is there for a super-size airport in Sussex. Gatwick airport is a great economic and service resource, however, I agree with those who claim that it is big enough as it is. Think - there are already plenty of airfield runways but just the one planet to live on.
