I oppose Gatwick Airport’s application for a northern runway for the following reasons. As the Government has declared a climate emergency we should be reducing out dependancy on fossil fuels and travel .Building more airport capacity when we already have five London airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead, Luton and City), is increasing pollution and CO2 emissions. I live in Forest Row [REDACTED] and the additional 100,000 plus flights a year will cause a substantial increase in aircraft noise and disturbance to both our community and the wildlife around the area. The network of public rights of way around the airport is already greatly affected by the noise of low-flying aircraft landing and taking off leading to loss of enjoyment for walkers and visitors to the area. Increase capacity will make this worse. Gatwick is served by a single motorway the M23 which has already been modified to four lanes. During busy period drivers are already using minor roads causing father congestion and deterioration of road surfaces. Gatwick’s train link is London to Brighton which is already at capacity. The applicant plans to develop the existing runway emergency runway. This does not comply with the Government’s Aviation Strategy. I recommend the Planning Inspectorate to refuse this application
