I am against the expansion of Gatwick airport. My main reason is the fact that air travel should not be increased since it is a huge contributer to the climate emergency. It would be better to improve train travel and make the prices of train (which is less polluting) cheaper. Air travel is currently cheaper than rail, which is a ridiculous situation and should be changed by more appropriate tax and subsidies. The SE is closer to Eurostar and sea crossings. If any part of UK needs more air access it would be the north. SE is already overcrowded and does not need to attract further development. Road network is already overstretched and so further traffic being brought to the area will make this worse.
