I disagree with the proposed expansion of Gatwick airport on the grounds that it is unjustified by their often fallacious arguments, takes insufficient consideration of the environmental damage this will cause and do not even measure some of the criteria which should be taken into account. They apparently discount the very large infrastructure increases which the proposed expansion would require but which lie outside the airport perimeter fence and so they do not include in their cost model. The proposed increase in capacity would be very damaging to the lives of the local population living within the area to be (further) blighted and under the present proposals the cost of these works would fall on the ratepayers of Sussex and Surrey, not on the absentee owners of the airport. I will expand on some of these aspects in a letter to be submitted shortly, but which this form does not allow me to attach, or to save now and submit more fully as a single entity.
