Firstly the impact on the environment. We should be looking at ways to reduce pollution not proposing to increase the volume by another runway at Gatwick. Just a small example during the summer months I clean garden table and chairs every few days as it’s coated in a black covering, considering the various schools and residential areas within a small radius of the airport, what is the long term impact on children and adults health. Secondly, and this is a big issue. For Gatwick to say it will provide thousands of jobs in the area, one we don’t have sufficient housing and without doubt the new housing developments in this area currently would be unaffordable for the majority of new jobs being created in Gatwick. We lack infrastructure ie schools. GP surgeries and Dentist practices to support the current new housing developments it would be foolish of the government to think they can suddenly conjure up all the professional bodies that would be needed to meet the needs of the residents in this vicinity if the new runaway went ahead. Residents in Horley and surrounding areas have experienced huge issues with flooding in the past few years. Over the past ten years housing developments have been built on fields which was always known as flooding fields, this situation would just get worse. Finally, we definitely do not have an unemployment problem in this area, as we all know too well, hospitals, airport, local companies can not recruit, a 2nd runway would make this problem ten times worse, The government and local authorities have a DUTY to the residents they represent to support their needs and should not be considering any further development at Gatwick.
