Our village is under the flight path to Gatwick, the noise varies depending on the wind and if the planes are taking off or landing, but it is very loud. In the summer if we have the windows open it wakes you up. It is the first noise you hear in the morning and the last you hear at night. Conversations in the garden actually have to pause to wait for the planes to finish going over as we can't hear each other. My [Redacted] son knows what a plane is, he points to the sky and shouts 'Car' (any vehicle is a car). But the point is it is intrusive enough that a baby is distracted by it. We cope with what there is, but a second runway would be really bad for us and others. Separately, it is a really bad signal for the environment that we are serious about carbon zero. I want to leave our children a healthy environment and therefore spend time doing small things such as sorting recycling, buying things which are better for the environment, paying for environmental improvements through my taxes. To give free rein to Gatwick to expand and make money is just taking the mikey out of all the efforts everyone is making.
