I have two objections to the second runway 1. The climate change damage done by the extra flights and the signal it sends that airport expansion is compatible with the country' climate change targets 2. The additional noise pollution that will be experienced. Even in Seaford, an hours drive away, the noise with easterly winds from flights at between 7000-10000 feet is awful and ceaseless. This will only worsen with the opening of an additional runway I am concerned about two related issues. I live about 25 miles due south of Gatwick and even at that distance departing flights during easterly winds come over my house ceaselessly at around 7-8000 feet. This frequency will likely double under these plans and I will have to leave the area to escape the noise. Secondly, I have worked on climate change issues for 25 years. I know only too well that we cannot afford to ge increasing the amount of energy intensive travel. For that reason alone we cannot allow this expansion to proceed.
