Over the last 10 years, Gatwick airport has consistently ignored the interests of the communities affected by its efforts to expand the airport's capacity. This has involved changes to flight arrival protocols that were implemented without due process or consultation and which gave rise to serous mistrust between airport management & the various interests affected by the changes. Since then, despite an extensive review of airport strategy by a Government-commissioned survey, which ruled clearly in favour of Heathrow expansion over Gatwick, Gatwick has effectively ignored opposition and now proposes to establish a 2nd runway. These plans run counter to the infrastructural framework recommended for the south-east in terms of traffic, public transport and environmental policies and must, in my view, be rejected outright.
