Whilst I don't object to this plan in principle, I do object to any plan that increases night time flights. Over the past 18 months or so there has been a marked increase in aircraft noise over residential areas around Crawley, especially at night. This is caused by an increasing number of aircraft performing a 'go around'. Gatwick's procedures allow aircraft performing a 'go around' to turn off the normal approach/departure corridor as soon as they cross the outbound airfield perimeter, so very early. When approaching from the west that 'go around' and early right turn takes aircraft directly over the residential neighbourhoods of Forge Wood, Pound Hill and Maidenbower at a very low altitude (under 3,000ft), which makes it very loud, and disturbs sleep. Gatwick claim the early and low turn off the flightpath is for aircraft safety but in reality it's just to get the aircraft out of the way so another one can take it's place. If the overshooting aircraft remained on the flightpath for another mile or so, then when it made the turn to get back into the landing pattern it would both be higher and no longer above highly populated neighbourhoods. Until their procedures stop impacting residents sleep I cannot support this proposal.
