  1. Flights in and out of Gatwick already constitute significant noise nuisance in the surrounding area, often at night; further expansion will obviously make this worse. 2) A second runway will inevitably increase road traffic to and from the airport thus creating congestion and this, in turn, will be an excuse for yet more road building (at government expense). 3) Extra employees at the airport will presumably require housing in the vicinity, so yet more green fields will be sacrificed. I don't think it is really worth it in terms of quality of life whatever economists, airline chiefs or developers might think!
