The audible effects of the existing single runway at Gatwick can be at certain times and certain parts of the area I live in can be overwhelming. For instance, on my frequent visits to Hever Castle this year a plane was overflying almost every few minutes during the time I was in the garden. The noise was intolerable and this applies to flightpath effected areas all around. While this is now the status quo with a single runway, a second runway would double the already overpowering noise. Also late night landings at the airport would obviously increase. As someone who recently landed at 2.30am after a flight from Greece I was surprised to find several other flights arriving at a time when I was led to believe such landings were rare. A second runway would, in my opinion exacerbate this.
