I object to the Gatwick plans to make their emergency runway into a second runway for the following reasons: *Significantly more flights over a larger area including the High Weald Area of Outstanding Beauty (in which is situated Hever Castle a Grade 1 listed heritage attraction set within a Grade 1 listed park and garden); *The designation is only awarded to the very best British landscapes and this area is one of the best surviving medieval landscapes in northwest Europe; *These special areas should be protected from adverse visual and audible developments. More effort should be made on reducing the impact of the airport on these areas not increasing it: *Places such as Hever Castle provide a beautiful, calm and restful environment for people of all age groups and not only for local people, but also those who visit from out of area. This environment would be negatively impacted by an additional runway and significantly more aircraft; *Development of a second runway would increase the use of cars travelling to and from the airport with an increase in air pollution *Expansion at Gatwick will add additional pressures to local and regional services including those that have already been, and continue to be, impacted by strikes, reduction in services, reduction in staff numbers.
