I am strongly against the development of the 2nd runway at Gatwick airport: • the additional flights of up to a cap of nearly 400,000 a year would massively impact noise, air quality and pollution in the area (significant carbon and greenhouse gases) • the pressure of additional passengers and workers getting to the airport on local roads would overwhelm the current road infrastructure, negatively affecting local residents • the additional 32 million passengers on the Brighton Main Line would be unacceptable (and it cannot be expanded) • the M23 is already deemed an unsafe smart road so additional pressures could make accidents more likely • Gatwick does not currently have two runways it can operate at the same time, so this is a new runway which therefore does not comply with the government's Aviation Strategy.
