I am seriously concerned about the impact that the proposed expansion of Gatwick Airport will have on the local area. The increase in noise and pollution will have a highly detrimental effect on local population and cause yet more problems to an environment which is already under great stress from housing developments. The proposal is based on forecast travel figures which are now out of date and should be challenged in the context of the post-pandemic world in which we live. The proposed increase in flights cannot be reconciled with our obligations to meet net zero targets and, even if a new runway could be justified, locating it in S East England makes no sense when there is an acknowledged need to prioritise development in the north of England or Scotland.
