The large population that is affected by this planned measure, has seen a significant increase in flights since Covid, which seem to carry on later and later into the evening. Gatwick have demonstrated that they have struggled to manage one runway and the effect of two and all of the holding patterns that would be required to make this work would be extremely damaging to the peaceful area around us. There was a principle of fair and equitable distribution, but it is quite clear that this has not been respected and I don’t believe that Gatwick can be trusted to operate in a fair way. The main issue is that holding patterns are extremely environmentally destructive, and have a terrible impact on the day-to-day lives of large numbers of people affected below. I very rarely contribute to these public forums, but this is something I do feel very strongly about.
