I am wishing to comment on the proposed plans to use the north runway at Gatwick in order to increase airport capacity. Having lived under the flight path for 10 years I am aware of the significant increase in air traffic this will lead to. An experiment 9 years ago to condense flight paths demonstrates the impact this will have on communities below. From a noise, environmental and air quality point of view I would strongly oppose such plans. Given the government is (I assume) still encouraging a reduced carbon footprint increasing air travel seems counterintuitive. There are very strict planning regulations for developments on the ground, I do not understand why Gatwick is being encouraged to fill the skies with additional planes and pollutants. In addition, surely there are enough planes coming into the South East and if the government is committed to level the country up then increased airport capacity in the North of England would make mire sense.
