I object strongly to the proposals. We live under the flight path and whilst we moved here, knowing this, the prospect of 1000’s of additional flights a year fills me with dread at a time when the noise levels are already significant and have been increasing. We were promised insulation over 10 years ago by Gatwick- a surveyor came and gave us details of the installer who never turned up and after several months of chasing to no avail, we gave up. Accordingly, I hope you will forgive me for not believing any of the Airport’s promises on noise mitigation etc. This extension for so called “emergency use” is clearly a slippery slope- an extension proposed despite all reports recommending Heathrow for expansion instead. Gatwick is surrounded by rural communities where there is a general lack of infrastructure to cope with increased air traffic and these communities will suffer in a multitude of ways. Heathrow is the UK hub- Gatwick, a holiday airport. At a critical time with climate change threatening the whole planet, the last thing we should be doing is to encourage more and more leisure air travel. I do not believe that expansion will benefit the rural economy. These plans should be rejected- if they were the right way forward, then previous reports would have recommended them- previous objective assessments- instead they have consistently recommended Heathrow for expansion , should expansion be required.
