The Emergency Runway adjacent to the main runway 26L/ 08R has been available for more than 35 years when I once landed a Lockheed Tristar on it as maintenance work was being completed on the main runway. 35 years later this discussion is still taking place. If it was utilised on a trial basis initially the benefits would become obvious in my humble opinion and London Gatwick would become more efficient and profitable with little additional inconvenience to the community.
