I object to this Gatwick airport expansion and urge that the advice from the government’s own Climate Change Committee (CCC) is taken seriously. The last report from June 2023 includes following key message: “The need for a framework to manage airport capacity. There has been continued airport expansion in recent years, counter to our assessment that there should be no net airport expansion across the UK.” Expansion means more CO2 pollution, more air pollution, and more noise. The argument of creating jobs is meaningless as alternatives to aviation would create jobs too if not more. Instead, I want our resources to be spent to improve alternatives to flying, namely better train links within the UK and Europe.
