The project will result in more flights from Gatwick, thereby worsening climate breakdown, at a time when nothing should be more important than reducing or eliminating fossil fuel use. The Committee on Climate Change (the Government's own climate advisors) say there should be no airport expansion at all. Even current Government policy is that if there is to be any expansion in the South East, it should be at Heathrow, not Gatwick. More flights will increase noise and disturbance for local residents, The plans mean more road building, further contributing to climate breakdown.
