The increase in Route 4 traffic is already interfering with our work and leisure and this will increase considerably if the proposed application to widen the Emergency Runway and bring it into regular use, if approved. The current levels of aircraft and noise already spoil our enjoyment of our garden particularly in the Summer months and the levels of aircraft which are proposed to be flying overhead, following expansion, will compound this issue further. The roads in the area are already busy, and in poor state and the increase traffic for those travelling to and from the airport, both visitors and staff will add more pressure on the highway infrastructure. We are also very concerned about the effect the increased air and road traffic will have on climate effects already associated with Gatwick Airport and the substantial increase in CO2 emissions. Finally, I question if there is a need! I understand the Airports National Policy Statement requires airports that are seeking to expand to demonstrate sufficient need for their proposals. The four London airports already handle almost 70% of the UK air traffic, increasing this percentage is unnecessary and totally contrary to levelling up.
