I believe a new runway at Gatwick will be counter to our commitment to reach net zero carbon emissions on which we are already failing according to the Parliamentary Climate Change Committee. It will do this through its operation and through the enormous amounts of concrete used, road building and other construction. It will add noise- and air-pollution reducing local amenity and add pressure on housing in the area. It will add years of disruption to local people and businesses many of which are already suffering from damage to local tourism from sewage discharges into seas and rivers made in the interests of shareholders.
