I wish to register my objection to Gatwick’s application to expand capacity. No government should endorse airport expansion anywhere given the impact this would have on the planet - we should be reducing, not increasing, the harmful emissions produced by planes by cutting, not increasing, their number. Gatwick’s contention is that they are responding to demand. In fact the reverse is true: by offering, for example, £10 travel to, say, Barcelona they are creating demand. The demand they respond to is that of the shareholders for ever more profit. It is unreasonable to expect all those who live under the flight path to accept this. They already suffer unacceptable noise pollution and any more would make life intolerable.
