I strongly object to a second runway at Gatwick airport. There is too much air traffic over the south-east already affecting air and noise pollution. Also, for local communities this proposal would be an additional, perhaps intolerable, blight on their lives. It can only worsen the situation with regard to climate change and reduce our opportunities to reach net zero as soon as possible. There would be other activities to support the demands of a second runway, in terms of road building and traffic levels all of which bring even more of the same detrimental consequences mentioned above. I am completely against the consequences of more flight capability but if were, erroneously, considered essential then Gatwick is not the location for it. It should be located in a sensitively chosen site in the north of the country to attract and support increased economic growth and more employment.
