The unacceptable impacts on my life and environment are; Loss of green space and increase in hard landscaping will result in more floodwater and pollution in the River Mole, flooding our vulnerable village. Increased pollution from aircraft emissions regardless of any predicted improvements in engine design based on unproven technology. Scientific consensus is that neither biofuels nor hydrogen are realistic alternatives in the foreseeable future. Impact on health of the population, particularly the elderly and children because of poorer air quality. The current level of noise already has a significant impact on quality of life and will only increase, and any increase in night flights will affect sleep and wellbeing. Traffic congestion is already a major problem and will worsen considerably as more cars and lorries use our village roads to avoid motorway delays. A report in the journal Bioscience 24th October, indicated that the earth’s climate may be approaching tipping points that will be hard to recover from if carbon emissions continue to rise and this is an unacceptable risk to future generations. Again, according to available data neither carbon offsetting nor storage will be able to have a significant reduction in greenhouse gases within the coming decades. By the time this infrastructure project is completed the need and desire for air travel will have greatly reduced due to environmental destruction in the destination countries, as already seen this summer.
