Gatwick Airport is already used to capacity. Local areas are blighted by the noise pollution ( and probable air pollution) of continuous flights taking off and landing at the airport. The impact of another operational runway will cause further blight to a much wider area as more aeroplanes fill our skies and demand wider flight paths. The roads connecting the airport are already extremely busy particularly the M25 and M23.The thought of 75 million passengers using Gatwick by the late 2030s is frightening. The stress on infrastructures and the environment surrounding Gatwick is extremely concerning. No amount of green planting and landscaping around the airport will make up for the loss of the existing environment. If 14,000 additional jobs are created where will these people and their families be housed? Housing demands in these areas are already high. The lack of school places, doctor surgeries and beds and increased waiting times for operations etc., at our local hospitals are worrying. Will Gatwick Airport be financially supporting these necessary infrastructures and the road building required to increase their planned Northern Runway? The pamphlet they sent to every house in the area entitle "One step closer to a brighter future - for everyone" should have been "One step closer to an unhealthy future - for our local community". Finally where will the "emergency" runway be??
