The resulting expansion of flights would be a significant contributor to climate breakdown, and the Government's own climate advisors, the Committee on Climate Change, say that there should be no new airport expansion. The plans will worsen air quality, and increase noise and disturbance for local residents. The plans will also mean new road building and increase pressure for housing in the region.
