I live in Horsham and I fear that a second runway at Gatwick will reduce my quality of life, in many ways. 1) Increase in aircraft noise – with up to an additional 101,000 flights a year, running from early morning to late at night. I can already hear the planes as it is and sometimes it keeps me awake. This will only get worse for me, my neighbours and my area if this second runway is approved. 2) Roads and infrastructure: Gatwick sits on a single main road, the M23 which is deemed an unsafe smart road. To add to the huge increase in freight, passengers and workers will cause a significant increase in congestion on residential roads and an inevitable decline in air quality. Even though I live in Horsham, I work in Crawley and I know it will have a major traffic increase in both areas. The airport sits on the Brighton Main Line, which can’t be expanded. Gatwick seeks to add an unacceptable burden to the line with over 32m extra passengers. 3) We face a climate emergency, and a new runway would add a significant amount of carbon and greenhouse gases. We have to take a stand now, before its too late for us, for our children. Business interests should not come before the quality of life of people. Thanks Martin
