There is already substantial air traffic effecting the local area and beyond. Many residential areas, tourist attractions and beauty spots are directly under the flight path and subject to the resulting pollution, including noise and light. Whilst increasing the number of flights might have short-term gain for the local economy and jobs, I believe this is to the far greater long term detriment of the overall area and environment, including climate change. It would be far better to increase the number of fright and passenger trains using the channel tunnel, and reinstate trains stopping at Ebbsfleet and Ashford International, with connecting train services across the South-East. If the government is seriously concerned about achieving net-zero, it should put appropriate pressure on Eurostar and local train companies, and not approve increased air traffic.
