The noise disturbance in Hever from flights into Gatwick is already at an unacceptable level both in terms of sound volume and frequency of flights: one can hear the next plane coming in as the sound of a plane recedes. No increase in disturbance should be permitted, indeed Gatwick and airlines should do far more to reduce the disturbance, not increase it in pursuit of an extra buck. This disturbance is of significance to all residents, but also of commercial significance. It has a substantial negative effect on the attractions of the area for tourism, hospitality and accommodation. Nationally important sites such as Hever Castle are already negatively impacted by aircraft noise. It must be doubtful if their plays and concerts could survive any increase. Finally, local transport and other infrastructure is not apt to cater to an increase in flights with the attendant traffic, parking services and other infrastructure. It is not the strategic answer to a need for increased airport capacity. Gatwick is already a blight on the area.
