Gatwick Airport already creates an unacceptable level of low flying aircraft noise. By opening a 2nd runway, this will become intolerable. In particular, as a founder member supporter of the open air theatre at Hever Castle for the last 30 years, each year the intrusive noise from aircraft has become worse. In 2023 it has become much harder (at many times impossible) to hear what is actually being spoken or sung on stage, since this year the aircraft have been flying lower over Hever Castle on their approach run prior to landing at Gatwick. By opening a further (2nd) runway, we might as well pack up and go home, since the noise interruptions this last summer have already had a downward effect on audience numbers, due to the interruptions of the plays and musicals by the intrusive aircraft engine noise.
