26 October 2023 To whom it may concern, LCCI submission to Northern Runway DCO London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) is one of the capital’s largest business groups, with more than 7,000 companies in its community. Transport is one of LCCI’s key priorities and London Gatwick Airport is a critical piece of infrastructure that helps London maintain its world city status. By connecting the UK with the world, Gatwick Airport plays a vital role in supporting local businesses in the area through its supply chain, allows firms from all over the UK to access opportunities internationally, and enables London’s world-class culture and tourism sectors to thrive. LCCI supports Gatwick Airport’s plans for the Northern Runway, which will create more capacity and increase accessibility to UK regions that aren’t connected to the capital by rail. London is a gateway for investment into the UK and this proposal will ensure that we have better connectivity across the country, which in turn will spread growth and opportunity to all corners of the UK. These well balanced proposals will mean that the Northern Runway can be utilized for business growth and be sensitive to the needs of local residents. Fundamentally, these plans mean that Gatwick can develop whilst contributing to the shared goals we all need to take to address the climate emergency. LCCI backs these plans as Gatwick is a great asset for West Sussex, for London – and for the United Kingdom.
