I am against the development of a second runway at Gatwick Airport. My primary causes for concern are: 1. The huge increase in aircraft noise, which is already a incessant and relentless burden for many thousands of people living/working around the airport. This burden does not go away - it is a part of the daily life for people and affects not only the enjoyment of where they live but their health and even their ability to sleep quietly in their own homes without being woken by noise. There should be a ban on night flights. 2. It is an a fact that climate change is dramatically affecting the world we live in. We are all witnessing more frequent extremes of climate - heat, drought, flooding, sea level rise. Aviation contributes 3.5% of the climate change which is attributed to human activities according to recent academic research and governments have the choice to either reduce/limit the activities which cause it OR continue without action and face the very serious consequences - harming health through air pollution, disease, extreme weather events, forced displacement, food insecurity etc.
