I would like to object to the proposed expansion of Gatwick as this would significantly increase aircraft noise if the expansion meant that flights paths would cross Dorking and the immediate surrounds. We already experience more noise than we would like from aircraft without being on a direct flight path, as well as helicopter flights connecting the airport to Heathrow, which would also increase in number. Gatwick have not proven that this level of expansion is needed given the capacity at other nearby London airports. Proof of need is required by the Airports National Policy Statement, and they should be compelled to provide this to justify the significant increase in noise and traffic on our already very congested roads in this area that would arise, and the huge adverse environmental effect on our local area. If their scheme is given approval, this should be with conditions that protect local residents and the environment such as a ban on night flights, use of the quietest aircraft, ensuring there is no further expansion or routine landings on the north runway, and payment of compensation to local councils for increased infrastructure costs.
