The expansion of Gatwick Airport by adding the additional runway will help to secure this important asset for the future, as well as improving the safety of both incoming and outgoing flights. Whilst I would not support extending the hours that aircraft are able to arrive and depart, as the technology for quieter engines continues to improve an increase in the hours would not necessarily be against the interests of residents. The Railway Station has been expanded and modernised to cater for more passengers travelling by train and the recent roadworks on the M23 and the feeder to Gatwick will ease any congestion that might arise should traffic volumes increase. The overarching consideration is to maintain economic prosperity for the South East of England and this development would certainly assist with achieving that objective. In addition, restricting the ability of the common man to depart these shores is undemocratic and should be resisted.
