It seems complete lunacy to allow Gatwick airport to expand its runway capacity, and hugely increase the number of flights. The Committee on Climate Change have said there should be no airport expansion, and it is clear that it will be near impossible for the UK to keep to its targets for fossil fuel reduction even with the present situation. Noise pollution is also a major issue; Already at busy times, much of the area around Gatwick under flight paths suffers almost non-stop noise, with disturbance continuing through the night. The quality of life should consist of more than the ability to fly off to holiday destinations at the environmental cost of all. The south-east is already crowded. A much higher priority should be given to enabling everyone to enjoy some tranquillity and green space in their home areas.
