From my rear garden we can see the aircraft taking off. They are close enough for us to easily identify the airline. We have been living in Horley for just a year. We were well aware of the aircraft noise BEFORE we brought the property. We now no longer notice the noise. Aircraft are much quieter than they were 20 years ago. There is a lot of criticism about noise but most people, like us, moved here knowing they were near the airport. I fully support the proposed second runway and believe that they should be planning for a third runway which will undoubtable be needed in 20 years time. Plan now and there should be less of a problems that there are now. The local prosperity both in South Surrey and North Sussex and beyond is due to the airport. We suffered far less in the recession and the recent Covid shut downs. This is in part due to the airport and part due the vast number of suppliers in the area. I appreciate that the protesters are concerned about noise and pollution. I accept and understand this. So, it is incumbent on the Airport Authority to address these issues and continue to take these points seriously and not just dismiss them as they tend to do. Great advances are being made in improvements in fuel type and reduction in engine noise they must embrace these improvements and demand them from their suppliers and aircraft manufacturers. The Gatwick authorities need much better relations with the public and adjacent local and borough councils. I am a Borough of Reigate and Banstead Councillor and a Horley Town Councillor. In Horley Town Council we have split the latest massive document into sections and those interested have each taken a section to read and report on. As a Structural Engineer I have the section on flooding. However, please note my views above are mine alone not those of either Council.
