I have not travelled by air for over two decades. For me flying it is not essential and I prefer not to be part of the Climate Change problem. I object to increasing air travel capacity as I believe we should all be doing as much as possible to prevent climate change becoming worse than it is. Flying may be essential to a certain extent but increasing flying capacity is likely to increase our carbon emissions. Adding an additional regular runway at Gatwick will permit additional flights to take off and land. Additional flights is something we should all be against for the sake of the climate. The fact that increasing air travel will increase profit to airline companies should not be a consideration. Great Britain is served by many airports and none of these should be permitted to expand for the sake of profit for private companies. The safety of the public should be the highest concern. In the long term we should be decreasing the volume of air traffic, decreasing air pollution and decreasing aircraft noise. In relation to safety, it makes perfect sense to have an Emergency Runway continuously available.
