Given the broad scientific consensus that we are now in a rapidly worsening climate crisis it is simply not acceptable, or socially or economically practical to consider development that leads to 386,000 flights a year, 76m passengers and workers on the already hopelessly overwhelmed roads and rail network, let alone the additional 0.5m to 1.5m tonnes of extra carbon that would be emitted by the 24/7 operation of two runways.
