A new runway at Gatwick is a terrible idea. Already we have far too much airplane noise disrupting our daily lives. When I'm outside I have to pause mid-conversation to wait for planes to fly overhead, this is because the noise is so loud that no one can hear what is being said. This occurs frequently, but would happen even more frequently if there was a new runway at Gatwick. Making outdoor spaces almost unusable. I get woken up in the morning by the sounds of planes overhead, even with my windows closed the noise still gets in. Having my window open during summer nights is completely out of the question as I can't sleep at all. Then there's the environmental issue. A new runway means more planes. The emissions are terrible for the environment. Additionally, Gatwick infrastructure can't cope with the volume of passengers they have now, let alone with a second run way. And what about local roads and public transport? The roads are littered with potholes, a second runway would also increase road traffic in the local area, the roads cannot support more vehicles.
