I strongly object to this proposed project for the following reasons: NOISE: My property is constantly exposed to aircraft noise flying directly on the overhead flight path above it. These occur throughout the day when often it is difficult to carry out a normal conversation outdoors. NIGHT FLIGHTS: Often this droning noise continues late into the night, disturbing sleep or wakes me up early in the morning. Furthermore, the noise envelope which Gatwick has proposed is not consistent with government policy and CAA guidance. Noise is very damaging to mental health and well-being ADVERSE AFFECT TO AIR POLLUTION AND CLIMATE The amount of expansion proposed would increase significantly CO2 emissions. Thus, Gatwick's emissions caused by flights, traffic and operational activity will have an even more detrimental impact on the environment and the UK's carbon reduction targets. LOCAL TRAFFIC CONGESTION There is already congestion around local roads surrounding Gatwick. This additional runway would compound and further exacerbate the problem. NON-COMPLIANCE Gatwick's case for expansion does not comply with the Airports National Policy Statement which requires airports (the exception being Heathrow) to demonstrate sufficient need to justify their expansion proposals additional to, or different from the need which would be met by the provision of a Northwest Runway at Heathrow. ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE The expansion at Gatwick will have a massive detrimental effect on the communities and countryside who would suffer from yet more noise and air pollution. Again, I repeat, I STRONGLY oppose this proposal which will only benefit Gatwick's shareholders.
