The main impacts that we are concerned about are the following 1. Road traffic. the increase in road traffic through our divisions and through the whole of East Sussex from the building work on the runway and the associated infrastructure work, as well as the increased traffic from people wanting to take flights, or arriving in the UK or from increased freight. This is bad for air quality and climate 2. Air quality from increased flights and traffic. participants and pollution from tyres and vehicle emissions 3. Lack of public transport. even with improvements there will still be limited public transport and people will be encouraged to use cars. the west-east public transport links at the north of East and West Sussex are terrible. 4. Climate change. The proposed increase in flights is a disaster for netzero ambitions as there is no currently useable zero emissions air transport options. the increase in airport capacity will increase emissions, rather than decrease. 5. Noise. East Sussex already suffers from noise pollution from Gatwick, and this will just get worse. Residents cannot tolerate it 6. Economic development and jobs. The claims being made are spurious and not necessary. This area already has a shortage of workers, and if more people are to move into the area, there is not sufficient housing and infrastructure to cope with that. This has not been thought through sufficiently. Also, much of the economic benefit will accrue to other countries rather than the UK.
