The expansion of Gatwick airport will mean a major increase in GHG emissions, which will contribute directly to the suffering and death of more people and animals from extreme weather events. This is morally and legally wrong, and financial incentives to pollute more must be removed (while protecting vulnerable people). Whoever has the power to block this expansion must do so, or they will be responsible for bringing us even closer to climatic tipping points, and possibly sending us flying over the edge. They will not be able to claim that their hands were tied and will face legal action and lengthy jail terms for abandoning their responsibility to their fellow humans. If they permit this expansion to go ahead, they will not be able to say "this was nothing to do with us"; instead, they will be held accountable for prioritising short-term profits over human lives.
