Heathrow had been chosen for an additional runway, to now lobby for a second runway at Gatwick, does this not make the case for massive consultation/process/decisions futile? The level of noise will increase as will pollution and CO2 emissions. Aircraft low altitude and noisy aircraft never really gets addressed, no matter how often this is discussed. This could really be managed a lot better, but ultimately Gatwick is not interested and is a bad neighbour. Safety is of great concern; how can an emergency runway be taken out? Heathrow has I understand had no formal ban on night flights since the 1960's but as far as I understand the Government has placed restrictions on them and sets a limit. Why would this not apply to Gatwick and the communities affected be treated differently?
